COVID-19: Skilled Care and Compliance Implications
June 4, 2020
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued multiple waivers for the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) Medicare program. These waivers represent a change from the usual operations for the majority of SNFs, which has led to confusion and potential compliance risk. This webinar will discuss the waivers that affect the Medicare reimbursement process, and apply the requirements for documenting skilled care within this changed framework. We will also review potential compliance pitfalls which may put SNFs at risk for a post-pandemic audit.
Learning Objectives:
- Summarize the COVID-19 waivers that impact Medicare reimbursement for Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs)
- Apply the requirements for skilled level of care and documentation without a qualifying hospital stay
- Give an example of an area of compliance risk in a future Medicare audit
