The FY 2022 SNF Proposed Rule: COVID-19, Case Mix, and Compliance

June 24, 2021

With the coming of Spring also comes the Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 Proposed Rule for Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs) under the Medicare Prospective Payment System (PPS).  As usual with the proposed rule, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced changes to the SNF Medicare Part A rates for the next fiscal year – but also as usual, the key points of interest are in the details.

Check out our Ten Tips to Prepare for October 1 blog.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Summarize the key changes to Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) Medicare Part A in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 Proposed Rule
  2. Discuss the potential implications of the proposed new SNF quality measures
  3. Identify three areas in SNF documentation that may be
subject to increased scrutiny by auditors
  4. Apply two strategies to reduce audit risk through your
    compliance program

This webinar covers the key points of the FY 2022 SNF Proposed Rule, as well as proposed updates to the Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM).  We discuss the proposed updates to the SNF Quality Reporting Program and the SNF Value-Based Program for FY 2022, as well as CMS’ commentary on PDPM and the COVID-19 pandemic.  Interpreting this commentary can help SNF providers draw a roadmap for their compliance programs to ensure that their facilities are not at risk for audits and loss of reimbursement.
